Mathematics A Level


Overview

The mission of the mathematics department is to provide an environment where students can learn and become competent users of mathematics and mathematical application. Moreover, the department will contribute to the development of students as mathematical thinkers, enabling them to become life long learners, to continue to grow in their chosen professions, and to function as productive citizens.

To support our mission, we are committed to professional development, ongoing curriculum assessment and design, effective teaching techniques, and the use of technology to supplement instruction.


Our Aim

Increase level of attainment for all students, by providing opportunities to enhance their skills in mathematics.

Establish a safe and stimulating environment for students rooted in mutual respect. Allow all students to learn, making wide links and developing reasoning skills and logical thinking.

Guide students to reflect on their progress and how to reach their full potential. Students will have their confidence encouraged and their complacency challenged in order to maximise potential.

To achieve this, staff design and develop simple and effective systems and interesting and effective teaching ideas and resources to enable classroom delivery and promote mathematics across the academy.

Curriculum

The mathematics department offers A level mathematics following the Edexcel syllabus for our sixth form students. This is a 2 year course, with all assessments taking place at the end of the second year.

The course consists of 6 modules, namely C1, C2, C3, C4, M1 and M2. Broadly, these modules cover:
